Hi there SnapKnot readers. Lauren from NewlyWish here, and I’m taking over today’s blog post to chat about registering for your wedding, specifically unique wedding registry ideas beyond the traditional china patterns and 5-piece place settings to something more unique to you as a couple like salsa or other dance lessons.
Why is it Important to Set Up a Registry?
Setting up a wedding registry is not just for you as a couple – yes, you’re creating a home together with new, beautiful and upgraded items – but it’s also as much a convenience for your guests as it is to ensure you really get the items you want and are going to use. Having recently planned my own wedding and gone through the registry process, I was a little reticent about creating a registry and “asking” for gifts. I quickly learned that not having a registry would actually create more work for friends and family. So remember, many of your family and friends want to get gifts and you having a wedding registry is a helpful way for them to make sure that they are able to get you something special.
Where Should I Register?
Putting together a wedding registry is both an exciting and overwhelming process. At NewlyWish, we always recommend couples register at no more than two places. In fact, if you can register for everything at one place, that’s even better! This allows you to see everything you’ve registered for, keeping you from listing duplicate items, or missing something you really want.
What Should I Register For?
Beyond the traditional registry items like blenders and serving pieces, I always love when couples register for experiential gifts that they can enjoy together, either before or after the wedding. These unique wedding registry ideas can be anything from concert tickets, to a wine tasting class or salsa lessons.
You can even choose to add honeymoon indulgences like helicopter and hot air balloon rides, scuba diving, horseback riding or even skydiving.
If you’re looking to add something to spruce up your new digs or to have a more cozy night at home, food, art and wine are also fun for everyone (both the gift-giver and recipient!).
So, don’t be afraid to register for what you really want (we once had a couple register for a new puppy)!! Think about who you are as a couple… are you adventurous? Are you foodies? Do you want to wow your guests with a footloose rendition at your reception? And, most importantly, enjoy the experience.
