Meet San Francisco Bay area wedding photographer Ashley Batz who captures romantic wedding moments.
Tell us about yourself: My name is Ashley Batz, and I started practicing photography when I was a freshman in high school. I fell in love with film photography so much that I walked into a photo studio owned by two photographers and asked for an internship. They accepted my inquiry, and I haven’t stopped photographing or working in the field since. Since then, I’ve graduated from Santa Clara University with a degree in Art History, but I always managed to take a photography class each quarter. I love capturing memories and adding to someone’s personal history by providing beautifully handcrafted images.
Why did you become a photographer: I love capturing the human condition: memories refused to be lost, personal histories, and basic emotions that are integral to our lives. I love capturing weddings so much because I am in love with love. Love is what fuels me to do the things I do.
How long have you been a photographer: I’ve been a photographer for almost ten years now, though I have only been a full-time photographer for two years.
What is your photography style: My photography is romantic and has a sweet aftertaste of warm nostalgia.
Who are some of your influences: My favorite photographers are Annie Leibovitz, Rus Anson, Stephanie Rausser, Jennifer Skog, and Tanja Lippert.
What would you recommend for a couple just starting their search for a wedding photographer: I actually wrote a blog post about choosing the right photographer for any couple!
Any fun facts about yourself: I have been dancing hip hop for 10 years, and I even started my own hip hop team while at SCU called Hipnotik. I put together an event, SCU’s Best Dance Crew, in which over 300 people attended. It was a success!
