“I do very little posing but I do use it when needed. I also find myself leaning more towards editorial these days so I suppose you could say my style is still evolving!”
Kelly is originally from the San Francisco Bay Area and has also spent a few years in the High Desert of Southern California. She loves traveling and the outdoors (camping is one of her favorite pastimes) and dreams of spending a year in an RV visiting various cities.
More insight into our newest North Carolina wedding photographer? She is the mother of a beautiful 13-year-old daughter and is addicted to Reese’s Pieces.
Kelly chose to become a photographer because she wanted to do something creative and flexible. It was something that she could practice and learn while still working her “9-5” job, and she loved taking pictures of her gorgeous little girl. At the time, she wasn’t sure what type of photography she would end up in or if she would ever be doing it for a living.
Kelly began her photography career in 2008 with a point and shoot that she borrowed from her parents. By the end of the year she had invested in her first DSLR…but had no clue what she was doing or how to use it. She practiced her skills on friends and their children and by photographing couples who needed engagement portraits, and after shooting her first wedding in 2009, decided to start her own business.
Kelly finds professional inspiration from many people, but number one on her list is her mentor, Christopher Ferrer. Kelly considers Christopher to be an amazing photographer and is thankful for his help with how far she’s come. Additionally, Kelly is influenced by photographers Jasmine Star, Katelyn James, Todd Laffler, Ben Chrisman, and her newest favorite, Susan Stripling.
Kelly’s #1 tip for couples just starting their search for a wedding photographer? Know what style you want.
“Knowing the style of your wedding will help match you with the right photographer. I would also recommend interviewing several photographers before deciding and to leave room in your budget for an album.”
