The Boston Business Journal recently reported on a study conducted by Liberty Mutual on the use of social media. The study found that men are more likely than women to engage in social networking such as Twitter and Facebook. Men are more likely to have more than one social media account (57% vs. 50%) and 51% of men think it is ok for their boss to tweet about their company vs. 37% of women. (37%?!? Get on board, ladies!)

Compare this study to this infographic from back in October over at one of my favorite sites, Information Is Beautiful:

social media gender breakdown

Verdict? Personally I think it’s just about even.

What do you think? Which gender uses social media more across the board? Is there variation among different social networks or industries?

Thanks to Susan of transient travels for the BBJ link!
