We are delighted to welcome Brett and Tori, a husband and wife photography team based out of Redlands, California, to the SnapKnot family. This dynamic duo strives to tell their client’s love stories in a very untraditional, journalistic way. Aiming for timeless wedding photos, they direct their couples to start out until the “real” emotions unravel on their own.

Tell us a bit about yourself. We’re a husband & wife wedding photography team that LOVE making new friends and telling their stories! We are determined to show off our client’s love in a unique and creative way.

Why did you choose to become a photographer? I (Brett) chose to become a photographer when I was 22 years old. I went out and broke the bank on a fancy point & shoot camera ($350!!) and found myself wanting to take photos every spare moment I had. It wasn’t until I started in the visual journalism program at Brooks Institute of Photography that I found my passion in photography, which was photographing people. I have taught  Tori everything I know and along the way and she has become the best 2nd shooter I could ever ask for!

How long have you been a photographer? The 1st wedding I shot by myself was in 2007, but it wasn’t until I graduated from Brooks in 2010 that I really amped up the gears on my business.

How would you classify your style of photography? Tori and I strive to tell our client’s love stories in a very untraditional, journalistic way. We direct our couples to start out, but the REAL emotions tend to work themselves out on their own. If I had to describe our work in one word, it would be “Timeless.” We try to stay away from super trendy looks that will be out dated in 5 years.

Who or what are some of your influences on either a personal or professional level? Some of our favorite wedding photographers are Ben & Erin Chrisman. They both have unbelievable talent and see things so differently than the average photographer would.

Do you have any good wedding stories? We have been blessed to have amazing clients along the way. No crazy stories, but true love stories NEVER get old. Every couple is so different from the last, which makes this job super enjoyable. It’s very uplifting for Tori and I to see couples so incredibly happy.

What’s your preferred type of camera equipment? We use Canon everything! Nothing against other brands, but I’ve used Canon from the start and love them. We don’t carry a ton of equipment with us. I love searching out areas for the best available light, and will only use flash to add some pizazz to the image :)

What would you recommend for a couple just starting their search for a wedding photographer? I would recommend that you set your budget, and then double it! Don’t skimp on photography. It’s one of the few things that will last after the wedding is over, and you want to feel like you made a great decision on who you chose. Also, book early. Great photographers tend to fill their schedule fast so let that be one of the 1st vendors you scratch off the list!

Any fun personal facts we should know about you? Tori is a full time RN at Redlands Community Hospital and loves it! I play on 2 different softball teams and I pitch for both. We don’t have kids yet, but we do have a 3 1/2 year old Chihuahua who might as well be our daughter. We even call her our dogger :)

Anything else to add about yourself, the wedding industry, photography, brides, grooms, etc? Be yourself! The wedding industry is so full of people that will tell you how to do things, but at the end of the day, you want to feel happy with your wedding, and not just because someone else told you to. Traditions are made to be broken. Start your own family tradition! Do whatever YOU want.
