Today we wanted to share a beautiful and unique styled wedding shoot with you. The theme that Deborah-Ann Photography and the entire team put together was these indigenous forest wedding photos that turned out absolutely stunning.
From gorgeous greenery in the woods to a beautiful bride and groom, and other decor, this styled shoot may bring you a little inspiration in your own wedding planning. Read on below throughout the post to hear first-hand from Deborah-Ann all about the wedding photo shoot, their ideas and the inspiration behind the shoot.
The Inspiration Behind the Shoot
“This shoot was inspired quite spontaneously one afternoon by a full, lush olive tree that grows in my neighbors garden. The pretty leaves, dark on the top side and silver underneath, seemed to wink in the sunlight and play as they fluttered in the breeze. I thought then that it would make the perfect foliage for a wedding theme, and I set about looking for a floral designer that could take this inspiration and bring t to life… and then I found Pippa!! She immediately understood my vision, and then she took it to a whole new, incredible level!! Using olive branches to give a pure and elegant beauty, she suggested taking the shoot into the lush indigenous forest, and BOOM! Look what happened!! An entire bridal creative shoot, entirely in the astounding beauty of Mother Nature.”
What Makes this Shoot Unique?
“Many brides want a gorgeous, lush wedding, but with the cost of flowers being so high, this isn’t always possible when realistically looking at budgets. However, the simple beauty of foliage, and especially olive, is breathtaking. This shoot, set in the forest, was a classic natural meets elegant.
It began with just Pippa and Deb wanting to shoot something unique and use Mother Nature herself as inspiration for natural beauty. One conversation with friends led to others and eventually our team was 9 service providers strong! What made it so unique and beautiful, was that 6 of the 9 were launching their new businesses after the shoot and would use the images and exposure from the shoot to make this happen. It was a team of fun, creative, dynamic and incredibly talented individuals!”
“Food is vital at a wedding. It always leaves a great taste in the mouth for everyone. Thus, it was important for us to have incredibly beautiful food, gorgeously plated and equally delicious, as inspiration for brides and couples.
Crumbed and baked goats cheese on wild rocket with pomegranate rubies, tomato chili jam and a drizzle of olive oil were just the starter!!
Details from the stationery by Laurie Lee Design to the dress, which was especially designed by Brit & Bride for the shoot to be natural and flowing, were thought out carefully. The colors were neutral due to us wanting the inspiration of the forest and olive to stand out. However the color of periwinkle blue in the sea holly and fabric table runner gave a soft and romantic feel, with the juxtaposition of the simple deep red rose on the plate, as well as red pomegranate seeds and herbs in the starter giving just the right amount of color burst to add interest.
Katie Clo’s hair and makeup perfectly complemented the look as Jeanne, barefoot and beautiful, adorned with a simple olive floral crown, walked through the forest of the Waterberry Café in Ballito with Christiaan at her side. In all, the morning was any bride’s dream, and the sunlight streaming through the canopy of trees seemed to be the most perfect element of all.”
Tips to Achieve a Similar Look
“If a bride loves the outdoors, be it the bush, savannah or forest, use Mother Nature as your inspiration. The Waterberry Café in Ballito was the perfect location, as they have the facilities to host a beautiful function, as well as a forest with wooden walkways to allow for a whimsical adventure in the forest!
If you are planning an outdoor wedding, be sure that there is enough shade for your guests, and definitely chat to your photographer before hand about what will contribute to great pictures. Choose a time of day or season that will best suit the type of wedding that you are wanting to achieve. If you’re getting married inside and want to create a forest feel, make hanging baskets and lush wreaths, heavy with foliage and greenery hanging from the ceilings. This will create an outdoors feel, as you bring nature indoors as part of your celebration.”
“On the day we did the shoot, the forest captured us as soon as we set foot into it’s damp, green lushness! We weren’t sure what lighting to expect due to expected cloud cover, but we were utterly mesmerized by the exquisite sunlight streaming in through the green canopy! It was soft, and almost surreal in where the rays of light touched, often where the couple was just about to stand, almost as if the forest and nature itself was getting involved in our endeavors to create beauty.
It was actually the most incredible timing, as we had scheduled the shoot for a week later, but as it happened, a few of the team had other things come up, and could not make that date. We decided to move the shoot up a week, had the most perfect weather, and at the end of the shoot a storm rolled in, lasting 4 days, flooding most of KZN! The forest was a marsh for days afterwards! We’d never have been able to capture these perfect scenes if we had done the shoot any later!!”
