A warm, SnapKnot welcome to Tina Maliga of Blue Skai Photography. This recent addition to our list of San Francisco wedding photographers classifies her shooting style as photojournalistic with a dash of fashion flair.
When looking for a wedding photographer, Tina encourages her couples to keep in mind the importance of personality.
“You always want to feel like you have a connection with your photographer. Look at all of their work, even their personal blogs and portraits. It really says a great deal about their personality and work ethic.”
Tina got her start in the photography industry as a fashion runway model; in fact, she did a few shoots in her own wedding gown! Although fun and exciting, Tina knew that she couldn’t make a career out of modeling. She wanted to find a way to stay involved in the fashion industry without being in front of the camera, and one day it dawned on her to start by purchasing one! This was the day that changed Tina’s life.
She began developing her skills by reading photography blogs and taking classes at the Academy of Art University. She was particular inspired by wedding photographer, Jasmine Star, and watched many of her classes. Tina found Star’s story uniquely inspirational. Eventually, she moved on to second shooting to gain experience and learn the ins and outs of the industry. After doing this for three weddings, Tina finally booked her first solo gig.
“I had such an awesome experience and even found that I could add a little bit of my fashion flair into my wedding images. I started getting more and more creative and began to fall head over heels in love with weddings. I still have my fun with fashion during weddings and will get my couples into a fashion pose for at least one shot.”
