A warm, SnapKnot welcome to Joel Allegretto, a wedding photographer based out of Tyler, Texas. Joel considers himself a photojournalist and does his best to document your day in a way that shows the real moments and real emotions. He tries to avoid posed shots, but instead, aims to be present for the perfect moments when they happen. In honor of capturing artistic, editorial, and real wedding photography, Joel favors this quote by Elliot Erwitt to describe his approach to photography:
“Photography is an art of observation. It has little to do with the things you see and everything to do with the way you see them.”
Joel was born into a huge Italian family from New Jersey (we’re talking 10 uncles, 2 aunts, and 42 first cousins!) He grew up traveling the world and doing humanitarian work, has been to multiple countries, and almost every state. He married his best friend when he was 20 and they have a daughter named Paisley. The most important thing in the world to Joel is his family and he loves spending as much time with them as possible.
Joel has always been an artist and thus loves using artistic mediums to express himself, as well as working with his hands. He bought his first camera 6 years ago to document a trip to Washington and Canada and realized upon his return how passionate he had become about using photography to express himself artistically.
It wasn’t until this year that he decided further that wedding photography is his true specialty.
“I realized that capturing two people who are passionate about their life together was what I loved to do most. I love the interaction and emotions brought together by two people that are in love.”
He recommends that couples just starting their search for a wedding photographer is to find one that they feel connected to.
“Look at their work and if you love their style then they are right for you. Put price and expectation aside and look for something that you connect to and makes you want to see your day documented through their lens.”
