A warm SnapKnot welcome to Margarita Dussan Photography, one of the newest additions to our list of Washington, District of Columbia wedding photographers. Among other things, this lifestyle wedding photographer and mother of two loves to travel and watch movies.
Tell us a bit about yourself.
I am a east coast photographer based in Bristow, Virginia, I cover the DC, MD and Va areas and also have had the pleasure of photographing weddings in Newport RI, Nantucket Island, MA, Cape Cod, MA and Bethany Beach in Delaware. I love to travel, read, watch movies and spend as much time is possible with my husband and my two daughters, I’m originally from Colombia, South America and have made the US my home since 1992.
Why did you choose to become a photographer?
I chose to be a photographer because I think memories should be recorded not only in your mind but in print, life passes us by way to fast and capturing those flying moments is what I love the most. After the ceremony and the reception are over, after the cake has been eaten all you have left to remember that special day is your pictures and they will last a lifetime.
How long have you been a photographer?
I have been a photographer for ever, but professionally for 7 years, I started as an assistant photographer for others and then a second photographer until I decided to go on my own.
How would you classify your style of photography?
I consider myself a lifestyle photographer with a photojournalistic approach, I like to capture the moments as they happen but of course there is always the traditional pictures that are a must for most couples and that I also enjoy taking.
What’s your preferred type of camera equipment?
I am a Nikon girl… enough said :)
What would you recommend for a couple just starting their search for a wedding photographer?
I recommend to couples that since they have so many choices now days, that they should take the time to talk over the phone or meet in person the few photographers that they really like, and see if there is chemistry between them and the photographer. I firmly believe that if there is chemistry the pictures are going to be gorgeous, and the couple will be more relaxed. Also they should remember that the photos are the only lasting memory they will have of their day, the only keepsake they can pass down to their children and grand children, and that because of that, they should choose quality over quantity.
