1) Tell us a bit about yourself. Why did you choose to become a photographer?
I’m Belinda, the photographer and owner of Shots Before Shoots. I was born and raised in Orange County, CA and while I like to travel, Southern California is my home. Where else can you have the beach, desert and mountains so close together?
I’m all about the little things in life. I think some of the most special moments are simple moments. Those little moments in life are what inspired me to become a portrait and wedding photographer. Being able to capture that magical interaction between loved ones and freeze it in time is something that brings me great joy. I’ve often compared photographs to being like a time machine; they can take us back to a particular moment and let us relive the joy, love and excitement all over again. To me, that makes photography something of high value.
2.) How long have you been a photographer?
I always loved taking photos, but I started seriously pursuing portrait and wedding photography about three years ago.
3.) How would you classify your style of photography?
Simple. Classy. Stylish. That really is the core of my photography brand. A lot of people are overwhelmed by the idea of a “photoshoot” so I want to keep things easy and simple for them so they can relax, enjoy themselves and be comfortable in front of the camera. The other two words kind of go hand in hand. Style changes, fads come and go, especially with photography. I believe it’s very important to create images that will stand the test of time and be classy no matter how far into the future you’re sharing them.
4.) Who or what are some of your influences on either a personal or professional level?
Over the years I’ve really come to admire photographers in the industry who provide an incredible innovative service. Photographers that have inspired me in this way are Sue Bryce with her breathtaking glamour photography, Jasmine Star with her simple yet stunning wedding photography and Lindsay Adler with her insanely creative fashion portfolio.
5.) What’s your preferred type of camera equipment?
I prefer to shoot with Canon equipment. Canon was the first brand I worked with when I became serious about photography and it’s what I’ve stuck with over the years without any trouble.
6.) What would you recommend for a couple just starting their search for a wedding photographer?
For the couples who are starting their search for a wedding photographer I highly recommend that they focus their search on the photos of and compatibility with a photographer rather than focusing on price shopping. I personally was a young bride and hastily chose my wedding photographer based on price alone. In hind sight, I wish I had chosen a photographer who had similar taste and style to me personally. Take the time to meet your potential photographers, and most of all make sure that you are in love with their photos, their portfolio is reflection of the type of photos you will get.
7.)Any fun personal facts we should know about you?
Fun Facts about me: I’m a goofball who will do just about anything for a laugh & I’m totally a nerd for karaoke, so cheesy.
