Today we’d like to introduce you to Daniel Aaron Sprague, a wedding photographer based in New England. Daniel’s one of the funniest and most genuine personalites we have on SnapKnot so we’re very happy to have him share some details about his work and his life with you (as well as a few cool photos):
Dan & Kate
Tell us a bit about yourself. Some things about me: I really like life. Kate (#mywife) always tells me that I live on a cloud and that it makes her jealous. My wife/family/friends/newenglandsportsteams are important to me. Kate and I love dogs and cats. I am the oldest of 5 children that my awesome mom and dad made. My mom and dad are really awesome! I like to fish and go camping. Lastly, I think New England is super cool!
Why did you choose to become a photographer? I have always had a hard time working for companies, I found it hard to motivate myself to get out of bed and go to work. I also struggled with finding any kind of purpose in my life. So I decided that someday I would own a business and write my own future. That is what I am doing now, and I love every second of it. Photography was something that I had enjoyed as a hobby since high school. And one morning I woke up and decided that I was going to make it my career. That day I was enrolled at a photography school in Cali, and a couple months later my wife and I moved 3000 miles away from our friends and family in New Hampshire to a completely unknown California. Now, almost 4 years later, I have my own business and it is thriving!
How long have you been a photographer? I bought my first film camera in the summer of 03′.
How would you classify your style of photography? This is a tough one. If I only had one word, friendly.
Who or what are some of your influences on either a personal or professional level? There are a lot. Personal: my dad Professional: I am not going to lie. Jeff Newsom is the bomb, and most of us know that already, but if you don’t you are in for a treat.
Do you have any good wedding stories? At one reception the DJ played Neil Diamond’s Sweet Caroline and everyone went nuts and crowded around the bride and groom singing at the top of their lungs. Its a #RedSoxNation thing.
What would you recommend for a couple just starting their search for a wedding photographer? Remember that the pictures and video are the only things you are going to take home with you. If you are on a budget, spend more for a good photographer and videographer, and less everywhere else. There are a lot of really cool trendy low budget things you can do to decorate a wedding but good photographs are priceless. Kate and I had a friend shoot our wedding and it is our biggest regret. Also inquire photographers sooner rather than later, Saturdays book up fast!
Any fun personal facts we should know about you? My wife is 18 weeks pregnant with our first child! http://bit.ly/40-weeks [SnapKnot: WOW – congrats Dan & Kate!]
