Meet Kristi Crosson, a wedding photographer out of Colorado Springs, Colorado. Kristi is one of several fantastic people we met at WPPI in March of this year. We wanted to give you a chance to get to know Kristi, and she was kind enough to answer a few of our questions:

1) Tell us a bit about yourself.

I’m Kristi Crosson. A wedding photographer based in Colorado Springs. I love hiking, the mountains, the ocean, and the colors red, purple, and yellow. I have been happily married for almost 5 years. I love hearing great stories. Epic stories. Love stories.

2) Why did you choose to become a photographer?

I have had a camera in my hand since I was about 7 years old. I had one of those 110mm film cameras, and I thought it was pretty high-tech. I loved capturing scenes, moments, and just about anything that would stay still long enough for me to photograph it. I decided to go pro a while after my own wedding in 2005. I didn’t hire a professional wedding photographer, and I still wish I had. My sister helped me go digital in 2006, and ever since then, I have been working on building my business and my portfolio.

3) How long have you been a photographer?

I have a been a Professional Photographer for almost 3 years.

4) How would you classify your style of photography?

I think my style is a blend of photojournalistic and editorial.

5) Who or what are some of your influences on either a personal or professional level?

One of my photographic influences is Ansel Adams. I love the sharpness of his landscapes. Simple, beautiful, and epic. On a personal level, I am influenced by the Bible, and I hold fast to my Christian faith and values. Professionally, I have been influenced by Dane Sanders and the Fasttrack Photographers (a group of incredible people who are involved in the Fasttrack Photographer Movement).

6) Do you have any good wedding stories?

I have a few great wedding stories that stick out in my mind. But one of my favorites is a couple that I did a vow renewal ceremony for. They had had some serious marital issues, and were almost divorced. The wife was already a Christian, but the husband was not, and he was participating in some very destructive behaviors. He ended up becoming a Christian and his life was completely transformed. You could hardly recognize him as the same person he had been. I loved doing their wedding because of the redemption of that marriage. Whereas many people would have given up, the wife did not, and her marriage was saved because of it.

7) What’s your preferred type of camera equipment?

I {heart} Canon. My favorite lens is my 50mm f1.8.

8) What would you recommend for a couple just starting their search for a wedding photographer?

For couples just starting out searching for a wedding photographer, I would recommend 2 things. #1 Take what you think you should spend on a good photographer and at least double it, even triple it. #2 Do not choose your photographer based solely on the “best price”. Instead, choose a photographer who you love, and fits well with you and your fiance. You will be spending a lot of time with them on your wedding day, and even if their work is great,  if you and your fiance do not mesh well with them…it could be a disaster!

9) Any fun personal facts we should know about you?

Fun fact #1: I have a Bachelor’s Degree in Biology. Fun fact #2: I used to want to be a Broadway Musical director.
