An engagement session is so important to you as a couple. In many instances, this is the first time you and your fiance have taken professional photographs together. In looking back at many anniversaries to come, your engagement photos will be ones you will remember forever! You can customize your photos however you want but we just love the idea of adding engagement shoot props!
There are so many awesome locations you can choose for your photos. It is a great idea to choose a location that says something about you both as a couple. Do you want to have them outdoors, or perhaps on the campus of the college you both went to and met for the first time? If you are wine lovers, a winery would be a beautiful location for your session, or a ball park for the sports lovers. Or, maybe you prefer to simply have your engagement photos taken at a family home that has sentimental value to you both. For some other ideas, check out our post all about where to take engagement photos.
Any of these options are wonderful but adding engagement shoot props to your photos, no matter where the location, can add a little bit more spice and excitement to each one. As far as what props to use… the sky is the limit!
Here are a few photos we found to give you some inspiration and get you thinking about what engagement shoot props would be best for you. We hope you enjoy!
Tim and Madie Photography had the opportunity to photograph Nelson and Brittany and this is what they had to say about why he chose to include this instrument in their photo.
“We simply loved this engagement session. Nelson played Brittany a song on his ukulele right before he proposed to her. They wanted to incorporate that special memory into their engagement shoot so they could capture that wonderful memory forever.”
Justina with Justina Louise Photography took some fun photos of Annie and Kevin at the Bray Park Campground in Minnesota. Here is what Justina had to say about the shoot.
“Annie and Kevin got engaged at Bray Park Campground, so they chose it as their location for their engagement shoot. We went with the camping theme and set up a tent, used canvas covered pillows, and comfy old quilts. They are an adorable couple with such an apparent love for each other!”
Katie with Edmonds & McKinlay Photography enjoyed taking engagement photos of Dan and Carla that was themed “Love on a Sunday.” We love how they kept their theme simple and just by using engagement shoot props that they would typically use in their daily routine, like reading looking at a photo album, or sharing a milkshake, it brings a little something extra to the photos.
Katie said, “”Dan & Carla are one of the loveliest couples we know! We got the chance to spend the afternoon with these two in their Toronto home to shoot some ‘engagement’ photos. We explored their west Toronto neighborhood and then stopped in at the Lakeview restaurant for a bite to eat. Our favorite thing about shooting Dan and Carla was just how laid back and comfortable it felt. These two know each other well and the respect and admiration they have for each other is clear from the photos.”
This engagement session between Leslie and Jason was shot by Sarah with Sarah Amelia Photography and not only did they use a beautiful location but she also made her own DIY pieces to include as her engagement shoot props. Here is what Sarah had to say about the shoot:
“We met on a warm and sunny fall day at Greenmead in Livonia, Michigan to take their engagement portraits. Between the gorgeous sunflowers, the special DIY pieces Leslie had put together, and the warm light that evening was magical. Leslie, knowing her fiance’s love of books created a special book to announce their wedding date. The evening could not have been more perfect. Their wedding is this upcoming October 2014 and I could not be more excited to celebrate their love and photograph their amazing day. They make each other giddy, and I left the photo session feeling like I was lucky because I got to capture that love on camera. Congratulations on your engagement Leslie and Jason!”
Melissa and Tommy were photographed at Peconic River Herb Farm in New York by EXO Photography with a gorgeous sunset-into-nightfall session. This is what EXO Photography had to say about this session.
“It was a brilliant location, offering great spots for the photos like the rustic greenhouse, the small dock on the water, picnic tables, a hammock, a wooden swing, and the fantastic trees that glowed orange due to the sunset. Melissa brought along a variety of quirky and creative props such as her big red balloon, a “gettin hitched” banner, a heart-shaped wreathe made of twigs, a shawl for her and Tommy to share, an old crate saying “Thank You” and adorable chalkboard signs to make their session even more special and unique. The two also brought along an outfit change to get more of a variety from their session.”
Anna with Anna Smith Photography took these amazing photos of Jessica and Tizoc at the Zilker Park Clubhouse with the City of Austin Parks Department in Texas. We just love how just using the kayaks in the photos as their engagement shoot props brings a little extra color and makes the photos pop just a bit more. To also help with the color in the photos, Jessica chose a color that really pops. For other tips from photographers on what to wear, be sure to check out our post on 6 tips on what to wear.
Anna said, “To all of the dreamers, real love does exist. Jessica and Tizoc first met at a flag football game in Austin. Luckily we only need a few words to describe their feelings for each other. I couldn’t believe how easy it was to photograph them during this stunning engagement session, and just how much Tizoc adores Jessica as a true gentleman would. These are his words and we can only extrapolate daily to the rest: “Sometimes as a man it’s hard to take your eyes off a beautiful girl, you just want to stare. Then, someone calls you out on it, and you introduce her as your fiancé.” They are both teachers. They are passionate about love, patience and kindness. They are real. I absolutely loved capturing their beginning in a gorgeous place and I am looking forward to seeing these two tie the knot on a very cool wedding date of 12/13/14. After sessions like these it’s easy to go home and love your husband just a little bit more!”
