A warm, SnapKnot welcome to Jason Mundie of A Dream Within Photography. Jason is based in Atlanta, Georgia and specializes with creative wedding photography with an artistic flair. He loves God, his family, UT sports, photography, and coffee (specifically traditional macchiattos)- in that order.
Jason discovered his skill for photography while studying fine art at the University of Tennessee. Although he was mostly interested in the video aspect of his media art concentration, he ended up getting his first camera for a required photography class and hasn’t put it down since! It was his time in college that helped mold Jason’s wedding photography style.
“I would say that my style of photography definitely has a major art influence to it. I am technically sound, but at the same time creative in my approach to composition, experimentation, and technique.“
Jason has several influences on both personal and professional levels, including Walker Evans and Ansel Adams. He recently visited an exhibit by Henri Cartier-Bresson, an artist he had also become a fan of while studying his work in school and whom he believes to be a true pioneer and inspiration to the photography world.
Jason encourages brides to avoid the temptation to cut corners when planning their wedding. He understands that it’s easy to try and save money where you can, but the one area you don’t want to do that in is choosing your wedding photographer. He implores brides to find a professional they get along with and trust, with a portfolio they absolutely love. “Trust me,” he says. “You will regret it for years to come if you go with Uncle Billy.”
“I was attending a wedding at my hometown of West Point, NY where I grew up. My dad was actually the officiant for the ceremony in the Cadet Chapel, a beautiful cathedral. Well to go from the back to the main sanctuary he had to go through a trap door that connect the pastor’s living quarters to the church. Apparently he forgot to close it behind him, and about halfway through the pastor’s golden retriever brushes my dad’s leg. Needless to say, it made for a good laugh.”
