We recently connected with Laura and liked what she had to share with both brides-to-be and the newlywed community. Laura’s a busy girl – she’s recently married, working, and currently runs two blogs (!) – where does she find the time? Learn more about Laura below:
Who are you? What’s your story?
I’m 25 years old and a Southern California native. I met my husband back in the middle of 2007 and we just got married in April of this year. We live with our puppy Dakota in a townhome and are in the process of really trying to buy a new home where we can start a family in the next couple of years. I’m a recent college graduate with a passion for entrepreneurship, blogging, and traveling.
The lovely Laura
Why did you start blogging?
About a year and a half ago I fell into the world of blogging when the word of “marriage” started popping up and I was finding so many wedding blogs. It wasn’t until a few months later that I decided to start a blog of my own, “With this ring, I thee blog” (http://withthisringitheeblog.blogspot.com). I instantly fell in love with blogging and the entire blogging community and haven’t looked
What can brides & newlyweds find at your blogs?
I originally started blogging to blog about my entire wedding journey – from planning, issues with vendors, and just advice and inspiration from my readers. Once I got married in April I knew this wasn’t the end of my blogging road. I wanted to still share wedding stories and information to my readers (as many are engaged or even single!) but I wanted to dip into the “newlywed/housewife” role as well which is where my newest blog came up, “Happy Hour with a Housewife” (www.happyhourwithahousewife.com). I talk about issues that I face within the newlywed world, cooking woes and recipes, anything and everything!
What makes you different from other wedding blogs/sites?
I don’t think much makes me different, I just know I don’t try too hard. I don’t over think my writing which I know can bother some of my readers… I’m not the one who sits there and rereads and proofreads my posts. I write from my heart and I think you can truly see my personality through my reading – typos and all.
Do you have any advice for other brides planning their weddings?
Do your research! There were so many things I planned in the very beginning without giving it any thought… I missed so many deals and opportunities because I would do impulse purchases or commitments. Once I realized all of resources I was able to save a TON of money… including in photography, videography, and my wedding dress!
Why should brides avail themselves of online resources like your blogs?
It will only help you! Like I said in my last answer the more you know, the more you save!
Do you have regular categories or features on the blog or is it just as subjects come up?
Right now I’m in the middle of my wedding recaps at “Happy Hour with a Housewife” so every day you are able to see one or two posts documenting my wedding day. I also have two features called “Tasty Tuesday” and “Thirsty Thursday” where I share with you some of my favorite EASY recipes (don’t let the term housewife fool you!) and cocktails! Other then that I just talk about subjects as they pop up! I’m also a big fan of giveaways for my readers, so you always want to check back often!
