Tell us a bit about yourself. My name is Stacey and I was born and raised in the Bay Area. I have an incredible support group that has given me the inspiration and determination to go after my dreams.

Why did you choose to become a photographer? Why does anyone choose to become a photographer? I love to capture moments that are special to a bride and groom. I am able to capture precious, delicate moments that they might have missed otherwise on their wedding day. Knowing that I have that much power in what I do makes me happy. I love seeing clients tear up again when they see their wedding pictures for the first time. It’s like they are reliving that day; that moment. The fact that I can make tender moments in a picture seem real is incredible honor.

How long have you been a photographer?
I started my own business in 2008, but before then I was second shooting for a few different professional photographers around my area.

How would you classify your style of photography?
A whole bunch of photojournalism with a pinch of traditional. I am a strong believer that the wedding day should unfold as it is going to. It’s not my job to stage a bunch of pictures (cake cutting, flower toss etc). I want the bride and groom to look natural in their pictures and what better way to capture those natural moments than to be “behind the scenes” so to speak. I like to blend in with the wedding guests. I try to look like a wedding guest with some fancy camera equipment. I don’t lug around a bunch of stuff because I don’t need to. I use natural light whenever possible and have on camera flashes for situations that require some more light.

I would love to see more and more couples break away from the superstitious tradition of not seeing each other before the ceremony and do a First Look. It allows for some amazing pictures and the best natural light.

Who or what are some of your influences on either a personal or professional level?
I think almost every wedding photographer will say that Jasmine Star is a huge influence on them. She is very down to earth and completely honest with the clients and fellow photographers. At first I never wanted to put personal things on my Facebook Fan Page because I was afraid of letting my clients get too involved with my life, but seeing how Jasmine works changed all that. She (indirectly of course) showed me that it’s better to be personal with your clients whenever possible because you want to attract people that are like you and the only way you can do that is to be yourself.

What’s your preferred type of camera equipment?
I shoot with Nikon professional equipment. I use all professional Nikon bodies, lenses and flashes.

What would you recommend for a couple just starting their search for a wedding photographer?
First I would recommend them getting their wedding photography budget in place before even browsing photographers. Then they need to decide what style they are going for in regards to wedding pictures (traditional, candid, mixture etc). After they figure that out then start browsing photographers. Pick around 5 photographers that are in your price range that have portfolios that you really like. Make an appointment with each one before making a final decision. You may really love one portfolio, but don’t like their personality etc. After you find a photographer that you feel comfortable with and that is in your price range then book them as soon as possible.

Any fun personal facts we should know about you?
I despise even numbers. Notice I didn’t say hate. I prefer odd numbers and I’m not exactly why. The number 4 is the only even number that I’m okay with. But if I have a choice such as: check out line at grocery store, volume, time to microwave something etc it’s always going to be an odd number.

Anything else to add about wedding photography in general?

I would love to see more and more couples break away from the superstitious tradition of not seeing each other before the ceremony and do a First Look. It allows for some amazing pictures and the best natural light.
