Next in our awesome wedding venue series is a beautiful location in Telluride, Colorado. Not only is Colorado absolutely gorgeous, but the Alta Lakes Observatory is just breathtaking. A unique and private backcountry cabin nestled underneath the 13,000-foot Palmyra and Silver Peaks of the San Juan Mountains.
The view is so amazing and the location is remote. In the summer, you can drive the 5-mile dirt road to get to the Alta Lakes Observatory while seeing some scenery that will take your breath away. During the winter, you have to access the property on the snow-covered road by snowmobile, or you can ski in from a nearby backcountry gate or cross country ski or snowshoe right to the front door.
Devon and Phoenix had their wedding at this beautiful Colorado location when the weather was warm and the wedding photography from their big day is simply stunning. Joshua, with Joshua McDonald Photography, a local Denver wedding photographer, had the opportunity to photograph this wedding. Here is what he had to say about the couple and the event:
“How much can I say about this wedding? How much can I say about these two wonderful people or their families? It’s sincerely difficult to always find the correct words when you are just simply blown away by people. Whether it be their actions, words, or a simple gesture, these two and their family have captured this photographers heart. Our photographic journey originally started this winter when Devon and Phoenix wanted to have their engagement session. It was a blast, in very remote locations and their photographs turned out absolutely beautiful. How could they not? Have you seen these two? Not to mention they’re head over heals in love with each other!
So, when it came time for their wedding I didn’t expect anything less then something out of the way, remote and difficult to get to. They said, Alta Lakes… Who would have thought it was at the top of a mountain hovering over 11,000 feet? So, imagine my surprise when I 4-wheeled all the way up a mountain, over some hills, rocks, more rocks, to this absolutely beautiful and to die for location? It was worth it.”
We hope you enjoy these beautiful photos as much as we do!
Here is a little bit more from Joshua.
“Their family was fantastic. They helped out in every way possible and made sure that everything was taken care of. What a family! I would have to say that’s the very definition of love and support. I loved every second of the day with these two and their family. There was never a dull moment and was it sure beautiful! At one point, I even saw a plane fly by at eye level which was weird to experience. I think I was even higher then the plane at Alta Lakes.
Did I mention that they DIY’d pretty much everything? Phoenix’s bouquet included a piece from her brother’s wedding, which was her something borrowed. The day was classy, elegant, fun, full of love and care. Oh and did I mention there was beer? Lots of it, how could we expect anything less from someone like Devon? He is, after all, a beer connoisseur.
I love, love, loved this entire day, these people, and everything that they stand for. This Denver wedding photographer had an absolute blast and was grateful to be apart of it. I look forward to hopefully many more weddings with this family… Congratulations again you two!”
We hope you have enjoyed these beautiful photos from this wedding at Alta Lakes Observatory as much as we did. Thank you so much Joshua for sharing them with us. To see more work from Joshua McDonald Photography, be sure to visit his website at www.joshua-mcdonald.com.
