Tell us a bit about yourself. Hi Everyone! I am the owner of Abbey Bradshaw Photography based out of South Jersey. I am the proud mom to a large four legged crew of a Border Collie, two Shelties, two cats and two horses (a Quarter Horse and an Oldenburg). When I’m not shooting I spend my free time with them and my husband. It keeps me busy but I love it!
Why did you choose to become a photographer? I think it’s in my blood! My grandfather was passionate about photography and even though I never got the chance to meet him I have that same love. When I began getting serious about photography I started with photographing horses since I spent all my time at the barn anyway before moving onto portraits and weddings. After my first wedding I was hooked on wedding photography and haven’t looked back!
How long have you been a photographer? I don’t remember a time that I didn’t have a love of photography but I started my formal instruction back in high school. After that I took some classes in college and then went on to fulfill my dream of starting my own business.
How would you classify your style of photography? I’d definitely classify my style as photojournalistic with a splash of traditional. I prefer to capture true, raw emotions as they happen rather than try to recreate them in a staged environment. The results are so much more amazing that way and it tells each couple’s unique story in a much more personal way.
Who or what are some of your influences on either a personal or professional level? I follow the work of many different photographers with a wide variety of styles. They all inspire me to find my own unique style. I also belong to a wonderful group called the Photo Betties based out of Philly which has given me the opportunity to meet and become friends with some amazing female photographers. They inspire and challenge me to be the best I can be.
Do you have any good wedding stories? I think the most unusual moment of my career happened a few years ago when I was shooting a self–proclaimed Hello Kitty addict. She took her theme to the max when designing her wedding from the centerpieces to her Hello Kitty jewel encrusted high heels and purse. The best part of the wedding came later though when her father surprised her with a life size Hello Kitty! I’ve never seen someone as happy as she was when Hello Kitty walked out onto the dance floor! It was definitely a moment I’ll never forget!
What is your favorite part of shooting weddings? My absolute favorite part of shooting weddings is getting to experience the happiest day of a person’s life. There is nothing better than being part of that joy!
What’s your preferred type of camera equipment? I’m a Canon girl all the way!
What would you recommend for a couple just starting their search for a wedding photographer? I would recommend meeting with photographers to see if you click. You will be spending the entire day with this person and if you don’t get along it’s going to affect the product you receive. I would also recommend asking to see complete wedding(s) that the photographer has delivered. When I searched for my photographer I went by just what I saw online and it didn’t end up being a true representation of what I was going to receive.
Any fun personal facts we should know about you? I am an avid horseback rider; I love dancing and anything outdoors, especially camping! I’m also adventurous when it comes to my photography and I love it when my couples are up for anything too!
